Membership

  • (a) The membership of ICOMAM shall comprise voting members and non-voting members.
    • (i) Voting members are:

      • (1) individual members of ICOM, not being already voting members of another International ICOM Committee, who have nominated ICOMAM as the Committee of which they wish to be a voting member and / or 

      • (2) museum professionals employed by an Institutional Member of ICOM, who have been designated by their institution as its representative in ICOMAM and who request membership of ICOMAM.

    • (ii) Non-voting members are:

      • (1) Associate Members of ICOMAM, normally being Members of ICOM who have sought membership of ICOMAM but who are already voting members of another International ICOM Committee;

      • (2) Honorary Members of ICOMAM, comprising persons who, because of their experience or because of professional services rendered to ICOM or to ICOMAM, are deemed to be worthy of membership of ICOM and, as a consequence, of ICOMAM;

      • (3) Supporting Members of ICOMAM, being persons or institutions that support ICOMAM and its aims because of an interest in museums or collections of arms and military history and in international co-operation between such museums and collections;

      • (4) Co-opted Members of ICOMAM, being persons who are not members of ICOM but who provide professional services to museums and accept and abide by the ICOM Code of Professional Ethics and who are co-opted as non-voting members in conjunction with a specific project or for a specific period of time.

  • (b) Members of ICOM wishing to join ICOMAM, either as voting or non-voting members, shall inform ICOM headquarters in Paris, which shall transmit details of the Member’s application to the Chairperson or Secretary of ICOMAM, together with an advice as to whether the Member is a voting member of any other Committee of ICOMAM

  • (c) The Chairperson of ICOMAM shall refer all applications which he/she has knowledge of to the Executive Board at its next meeting. The Board shall admit applicants to one or other of the classes of membership of ICOMAM depending on the voting affiliation (if any) of the applicant with another International ICOM Committee. A person shall not be denied membership of ICOMAM on the grounds of lack of professional qualifications in the area of specialisation of ICOMAM.

  • (d) The Executive Board has full discretion regarding the admittance of Honorary, Supporting and co-opted members.

  • (e) The Executive Board of ICOMAM may, in exceptional cases, invite or accept individuals, not being members of ICOM, to become Associate Members of ICOMAM. Such members shall be indicated as ‘Associate Members of ICOMAM (N.I.M.)’. [N.I.M. = not ICOM member]

  • (f) Honorary and Supporting Members may not hold any office in ICOMAM and they are not entitled to vote, other than as individual registered participants at a General Conference of ICOM. Otherwise they have the same privileges and rights as the Individual Members, with the sole difference that Honorary Members are not obliged to pay the ICOMAM Subscription for Specific Services.

  • (g)  Membership of ICOMAM shall cease if the member
    • (i)  resigns from ICOMAM, or
    • (ii)  ceases to be a member of ICOM for any reason, or


    Rights of Members

    • (a) Upon admission of a person to membership of ICOMAM, membership rights accrue to the member, including the right to receive the ICOMAM Newsletter and other mailings, to participate in the activities and programs of ICOMAM, to attend its meetings and to have the right to buy any publications produced by, or under the auspices of, ICOMAM for sale to members.

    • (b) Persons admitted by the Executive Board as voting members shall have the right to vote in the business meetings of ICOMAM, or by a written vote organised by the Executive Board, to stand for election to the Executive Board, to vote in the Board elections and to be designated as an ICOMAM representative to vote at the General Assembly of ICOM and in the election of ICOM’s Executive Council.

    • (c) A voting member of ICOMAM who seeks and obtains voting membership of another International ICOM Committee shall, upon request, become a non-voting member of ICOMAM.

    • (d) Non-voting members may not vote in the affairs of ICOMAM nor stand for election to its Executive Board.
