THIS HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FROM OUR PREVIOUS PLAN (2005-7) IN LINE WITH ICOM’S STRATEGIC PLAN 2008-10
ICOM STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE 1:
STRENGTHEN GLOBAL IMPACT
- Improve worldwide communication
- Improve contacts with and membership from South America
- Lobby ICOM to accept our diverse membership as full partners
- Seek opportunities to work with partners both inside and outside the worldwide community of museums
- Explore issues of social use and relevance that can demonstrate the continuing and diverse relevance of our sector
PROVIDE LEADERSHIP IN ADVOCATING THE VALUE OF HERITAGE
- Continue to lobby international organisations and national governments on museum issues
- Develop a database of socially relevant research and knowledge that can demonstrate the continuing and diverse relevance of our sector
CHAMPION EFFECTIVENESS AND HIGH STANDARDS IN MUSEUMS
- Encourage adoption of ICOM Code of Ethics and other standards by museums and their staff
- Ensure meetings deal with current practical issues as well as academic research
- Begin work on a case study of good practise
- Encourage both the enhancement and the relevant use of collections
- Continue fostering excellence through the Justus Lipsius Awards.
ENSURE THE RESOURCES REQUIRED TO EFFECTIVELY IMPLEMENT THE PLAN
- Encourage ICOM to fund us and all ICs better
- Seek other and diverse funding streams
